How to run discussions and paid content on Crownerr

How discussion posts work on Crownerr, from the rich editor and comments to public, private, and members-only visibility, plus how AI fills in metadata and who this suits.

Disclosure first: I work on Crownerr and this is our blog. With that out of the way, discussions are the part of a Space most creators touch every day, so it is worth understanding well. This is where your community talks, where your free content lives, and where a lot of your paid content sits too.

What a discussion post is

A discussion post is a piece of content written in a rich editor, with comments, likes, replies, and bookmarks underneath. Members can react and reply, you can pin and moderate, and each post carries a visibility setting that decides who sees it. That setting is the lever that turns a post from public reading into paid content.

There are three visibility levels: public, private, and members-only. Public is open to anyone. Private is restricted. Members-only is the paid gate, readable by people on your membership tiers. Same editor, same post, different audience depending on the toggle.

Setting it up

There is not much to configure before you start. The editor is there from day one. To run paid content, you do need membership tiers live, since members-only posts unlock for paying members. If you have not set those up, the short version is: connect Stripe, switch on Pro and Ultimate, and you have an audience to gate to. We cover that fully in the memberships setup guide.

To publish a post:

  • Open the editor and write. It is a rich editor, so formatting, links, and structure all work the way you expect.
  • Pick visibility: public, private, or members-only. This is the only decision that changes who reads it.
  • Publish. The post appears in your Space, and comments open underneath.

The AI metadata part happens quietly. When you publish, AI can help fill in the supporting metadata around a post rather than leaving you to hand-write every field. It is one of the places Crownerr's AI-assisted approach shows up without getting in your way, since it drafts rather than dictates. The AI assistant guide covers where else it helps.

Using it day to day

Day to day, discussions are a rhythm. You post, people comment, you reply, the thread builds. Likes and bookmarks let readers signal and save without commenting, which surfaces what is landing. The comment thread under a post is often where the real community forms, more than the post itself.

Mixing visibility is where it gets useful. Keep your front door public so new people can find and read you. Put the deeper or more personal material behind members-only. Use private for drafts or for content meant for a narrow group. You are running all three from one place, switching per post, not juggling separate tools for free and paid.

Moderation sits underneath all of this. Reporting, AI toxicity scoring, moderator actions, and appeals are built in, so as the threads grow you are not left without controls. For a small Space this rarely comes up. For a large or spicy one, it matters a lot.

If a thread is getting heated or off-topic, the moderation tools and the visibility settings together give you room to manage it. You can read more about how the whole content and community side fits together on the how it works page.

Who it's for, and the honest tradeoffs

Discussions suit anyone whose work is partly conversation: a community builder, a writer who wants replies rather than a silent mailing list, a coach running an ongoing group. If you want a back-and-forth and not just broadcast, this is the core feature for you.

Paid content via members-only posts suits creators who already publish enough that gating some of it makes sense. If you post once a month, gating that single post will frustrate more than it earns. The model rewards a steady flow where free and paid sit side by side.

Now the honest cons. A discussion space is only as alive as the people in it, so early on you may be talking into a quiet room. That is normal, but it takes patience. Moderation, while built in, is still your responsibility to actually use as you scale. And gating content is a balance: gate too much and new people bounce, gate too little and members wonder what they are paying for. There is no formula. You feel it out.

One thing Crownerr does not pretend to be: a pure community app with the polish of something like Discord or Circle on the social side. Their community UX is more mature in places, and we say so on our comparison pages. What you get here is discussions sitting in the same Space as your products, memberships, and livestreams, on a domain you own.

The questions creators ask most. Can a post be free now and paid later? Visibility is a setting you control, so you choose per post. Do comments work on every post? Yes, with likes, replies, and bookmarks. What stops a thread turning toxic? Built-in moderation with AI toxicity scoring, moderator actions, and appeals. If you want to weigh this against dedicated community platforms, the alternatives page is honest about where each one leads.

Questions

Frequently asked

What visibility options do discussion posts have?
Each post can be public, private, or members-only. Public is open to anyone, private is restricted, and members-only is the paid gate that unlocks for people on your membership tiers. You set this per post in the same editor, so a post's audience is just a toggle away.
How does AI help with discussion posts?
When you publish, AI can help fill in the supporting metadata around a post rather than making you hand-write every field. It drafts and assists rather than taking over, which is part of Crownerr's AI-assisted approach across modules.
What moderation is available for discussions?
Discussions include built-in moderation: reporting, AI toxicity scoring, moderator actions, and appeals. For a small Space this rarely comes up, but for a large or active community these controls matter as threads grow.
